Guided Biofilm Therapy is a system that allows you to thoroughly remove dental biofilm (the layer of plaque and bacteria that covers teeth and, if not eliminated, can cause disease and inflammation), tartar, and stains.
GBT is truly minimally invasive and reduces the need for manual and sonic/ultrasonic instruments. It is a safe, effective, and gentle method for teeth and soft tissue, implants, and restorations.
The discomfort and sensitivity associated with the hygiene session are practically eliminated.

Guided Biofilm Therapy: how it Works
The GBT technique is performed with the AirFlow Prophylaxis Master device which simply and effectively removes biofilm, stains and recently formed tartar, both in the supragingival and subgingival areas, thus limiting the need to use electric and hand instruments.
The hygienist applies a disclosing agent to your teeth, which will turn any plaque buildup fuchsia/blue, making it very easy to spot. This step also helps identify areas where the toothbrush doesn’t reach.
Biofilm, recently formed tartar, and stains are removed using a controlled jet of compressed air: this is demineralized water containing micro-powders (erythritol, bicarbonate, or glycine).
Subsequently, a professional scaler (Piezon) is used to minimally invasively remove any remaining tartar. This device uses heated water to minimize sensitivity.
Guided Biofilm Therapy: why it is recommended
This is a minimally invasive protocol that significantly reduces treatment time compared to professional mechanical plaque removal.

It is a more comfortable treatment for the patient: less noisy and also includes the possibility of regulating the water temperature.
It creates awareness in the patient regarding their oral hygiene.
It is also useful and recommended in the primary prevention of caries and periodontitis in children and adolescents.
